2023 Josie Music Awards
On October 22, 2023 John and Rachel Harris attended The 9th Annual Josie Music Awards held at The Grand Old Opry House in Nashville, TN.
Rachel was nominated in the Category of "Female Traditional County Vocalist of the Year."
Traditions Rising Wins 9th Annual Alabama Music Award

Traditons Rising atteneded the 9th Annual Alabama Music Awards at the Bessimer Civic Center on Sunday July 23rd. The Band had recived a nomination for "BAMA Country Band of the Year" along with Vocalist Rachel Harris, voted "2022 BAMA Country Female Artist of the Year" last year, was nominated for a second year for the same category.
The votes were counted and it was announced Sunday evening live that Traditions Rising had won "2023 BAMA Country Band of the Year." Traditions Rising Guitarist John Harris along with wife and Vocalist Rachel Harris accepted the award on behalf of the band.
The duo, during their live performance of "Kansas City" on the main stage at the awards, thanked all the Traditions Rising band members for their contrabutions and the fans for their votes.

August 11, 2023 at 4:09 pm EDTHUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - The country music band Traditions Rising won the award for Bama County Band of the Year at the 9th Annual Alabama Music Awards.
Traditions Rising was nominated for Bama Country Band of the Year and Vocalist Rachel Harris was nominated for Bama Country Female Artist of the Year, the same award won by Rachel last year at the 8th Annual Alabama Music Awards. The Alabama Music Awards are voted on by the public from April to June each year. Traditions Rising Guitarist John Harris and vocalist Rachel Harris accepted the award for the band, and later that evening went on to perform an acoustic version of “Kansas City” during the Live Awards Show.

39th Annual poke Salat Festival
Arab’s Poke Salat Festival Today May 20, 2023 (The Advisor Gleam)
Arab’s annual Poke Salat Festival is today (Saturday) The festival is from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in downtown Arab and features entertainment, arts crafts, food vendors and of course, poke salat. Granny’s Corner will be serving Poke Salat. “For 39 years, the festival has been blessed by members of this community who have generously donated bags of poke weed leaves harvested from where it’s growing wild in their yards,” said organizer Dawn Sparks.
Entertainment will be provided by: • Brindlee Mountain High School Pep Band; • Members of the Brindlee Mountain High School Choir; • Arab High School Jazz Band. Main stage performances are: • Misti & Louie, 2:30-4 p.m. This duo from the band Mudbone Willie bring a show filled with blues and R&B to the Festival. • Traditions Rising, 4:30-6 p.m. Traditions Rising is a traditional country music band who perform all your favorites. Lead singer and Arab resident Rachel Harris won the 2022 Bama Country Music Vocalist of the year award, and she and the band are both nominated again this year!
Fun Events • Axe Throwing. Try your skills at throwing axes at targets with Axecessive Axecessive Mobile; • Learn line dancing with Jackie Turman; • Visit with First Responders and take selfies with the Marshall County SWAT MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle); • Learn how pottery is made on the potter’s wheel with Wallace Turman; • Free bounce house for the kids and the sidewalk art area gives young artists a chance to show off their art skills; • Face painting. Top Dog Competition • The top 10 dogs from our online contest will move on to the stage portion of the competition. Come and vote for your favorite.
Vendors • Browse Artisan Avenue for handcrafted jewelry, candles, bath products, wind chimes, benches and birdhouses, knives, photography art and much more. • There will be toy and novelty vendors with lots of fun things for the kids. • Visit local church and civic group booths for information and learn about local businesses. • Downtown businesses welcome you to stop by and enjoy refreshments and browse an amazing array of shops and boutiques. Food Court Come hungry because the food court will be offering all your Festival favorites – BBQ, tacos and street corn, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs, roasted corn, gourmet cheese cakes and bread pudding, baked goods, lemonade, cotton candy, shaved ice and, of course, the star of the show: poke salat. You’ll find the poke salat, cooked by Granny’s Corner, served in the food court this year, under the big tent. It always goes fast, so come early.
